Geboren in Stuttgart in 1948

Overleden in São Jose dos Campos,  Brazilië in 1992

Born in Stuttgart May 25, 1948

Died in São José dos Campos, Brazil May 15, 1992

As boy of 14, in 1963,  he emigrated with his parents to Brazil. They settled at São José dos Campos a medium size city between Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo.

Kuno Schiefer studied at the Escola das Belas Artes in São José dos Campos. He was fascinated by the nature and exuberant colours of Brazil.

He started painting figurative and as subject the interior of his own house and nature in the immediate surroundings of his house.

In 1980 he moved to Rio de Janeiro, a city far more interesting than sleepy São José dos Campos. Finally he was able to liberate himself from his petit bourgeois German background and his dominant mother.

The beauty of this city with its magnificent beaches, mountains, tropical nature and sensual population were a great influence in his personal life and also in his work.

In Rio he met the painter Victor Arruda, also part-owner of the Galaria Saramenhia, he incentivated Kuno to make very large paintings, mostly based on tropical flowers and plants and blown-up nature scenes. These were very productive years.

Now Kuno Schiefer was able travel, he visited many museums in New York and later Berlin, in which city he decided to settle. In Berlin he met many artists and got involved with an very interesting bohemian crowd, which was such a contrast from his Brazilian background.

In this time of self reflection he felt the need to try a new style, more abstract, still based on the harmonious themes of nature, but much enlarged and in very strong primary colours.

This was a difficult decision as his figurative work was very well accepted, but artistically it was a good development which was well received by the art critics.
